Looking Back on TOP Night: by Eve Brown-Ryder

This year, the Crusader Player Drama Team’s very own Talent on Point (TOP) Night was held on Friday, December 7th at Memorial High School.

The winner of the $100 cash prize was Alicia Castagnino. Gavin Huntley came in second and Leala Shyabout came in third.

The first act of the night was from Hailey Lansing who sang “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” by Queen. Then Olivia Rosa sang “Stay” by Rihanna, Amir Melkic played “Cello Suite No.1” by Johann Sebastian Bach, Shaysa Hernandez sang “Someone Like You” by Adele, Dream Cherry rapped an original piece, Leala Shyabout sang “Don’t Rain on my Parade” by Barbra Streisand, Athena Vasilopoulos sang “No One Else” by Natasha Pierre, Gavin Huntley taught the audience the basics of beatboxing, and Alicia Castagnino finished off the first round by singing “Consequences” by Camila Cabello.

After all of the performers finished, a panel of five judges selected the top three performers who came back and gave a second performance. Once the three finalists completed the last round, the audience was invited into the hall to vote for their favorite performer by placing their admission ticket into a bucket with their favorite performer’s name on it.

Overall, the night was a fun experience for performers and audience members alike. This three year tradition will continue next year, but under a different name as in the coming years the Crusader Player Drama Team will be hosting what will be called “Talent Showcase.”
