Brittney Barton’s Senior Spotlight: by Eve Brown-Ryder

Brittney Barton has been riding horses since she was four years old. She participates in hunter jumpers (slow and perfection oriented) and jumpers (speed driven) in the English style. Through the years she has represented Springtime Stable and trainer Christy Collins and has ridden eight horses; Leo, Werdict, Sadie, Levie, Sweetie, Sephora, Tinkerbelle, and Mick.

Her favorite part of riding is being able to bond and build a trusting relationship with her horse. She has won hundreds of awards, including States Jumping two years ago and Finals Jumping last year, and hopes to one day make it to the Olympics with Tinkerbelle.

It may seem like the importance Barton places on horseback riding would distract from school, but the opposite is true. Her horses have driven her to work hard academically because they would be taken away if her grades started to suffer. As an experienced rider, she would like to advise those new to the sport to “stay confident and always sit back.” Barton plans to continue riding horses in her adult life and will love them forever.
