UPDATE (6-14-21) by Eve Brown-Ryder: In the last installation of Memorial’s Musicians, Athena Vasilopoulos was interviewed about her audition experience and she participated in a follow-up interview about how the festival went. For this installment of the series, Caleb Denio answered the original set of questions about his audition. However, he was not available for a second interview.
(2-17-21): A music festival is an event where people can show their vocal and instrumental talents. Each year in New Hampshire, there are two music festivals; Classical All-State and Jazz All-State. These festivals are in April. Five of the Memorial students who auditioned this year earned a spot at one of these music festivals. One of these talented people is junior Caleb Denio, who got accepted into Classical All-State on violin.
Usually, Classical All-State auditions are held at Memorial and the festival is in Concord. This year’s audition was online and the festival will be held via Zoom. Students auditioned by performing three musical pieces which they practiced on their own time. Out of all the students who auditioned, about 30 people got selected.
This was Denio’s second year auditioning. He shared, “this year’s audition was definitely weird, but normally it’s… just really awesome… It was difficult [this year] because it had to [be] recorded, but last year was very nerve-racking.” Denio will be auditioning again in the future.
Congratulations, Caleb! Good luck to you and everyone else who will be participating in the music festivals.
